Nokia Strengthens Partnership with Microsoft, Unveils New Lumia Smartphones

Nokia, previously the world's largest mobile phone manufacturer until it was dethroned by electronics giant Samsung, tries to get back into the smartphone business with the unveiling of its latest Lumia smartphones.

Nokia released the Lumia 900 previously but was not a success in terms of sales and innovation.  Nokia has partnered with software giant Microsoft to come up with its flagship smartphone, the Lumia 920.  The Lumia 920 is going to run on the latest Windows Phone 8 operating system.

The Nokia Lumia 920 is equipped with a 4.5" LCD Nokia PureMotion HD Plus screen which according to Nokia is the fastest screen ever on a mobile phone.  The screen will be capable of displaying WXGA resolution which is 1,280x768 pixels.

The Nokia Lumia 920 will include Microsoft's PhotoSynth application which allows you to stitch together different phots to come out with a panoramic view.  Another interesting application included in the Nokia Lumia 920 will be Nokia's mapping application which will have Nokia's map database as its backend and will include maps for until 200 countries.

Another great innovation in the Lumia 920 is it's wireless charging capability, this will be done through the Qi standard, with this technology, users can just put the phone on top of a compatible wireless charger and the phone gets charged.  Nokia is already partnering with different establishments, specially cafes to have the wireless chargers in their establishments.  According to Nokia, the Lumia 920's battery will last for a day with average use.

The Lumia 920 will be NFC capable, NFC is the current buzzword in the mobile phone arena which allows for payments using mobile phones.

The processor that will power the Lumia 920 will be the dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor.

The Lumia 920 will have a rear-facing 8 megapixel camera.

The Nokia Lumia 920 will be available in 3 different colors, Sunshine Yellow, Lipstick Red and Slate Grey .

Nokia also released the Lumia 820 which is the midrange version of the 920.
