Interesting New Features Released for Google Photos

Google has added new features to its Google Photos application.  The new features were announced during the Google I/O developer's conference last May 17.  Google Photos, an already impressive photo storage and organizer application is gaining ground against similar applications, most notably, Apple's Photos App.

The first new feature announced is called Suggested Sharing.  With suggested sharing, Google Photos is able to suggest who you could share particular photos with.  Google used machine learning technology for this feature.  Suggested sharing is made possible by gathering your previous photo shares and comes out in a new tab in the app called "New Shares".

Another new feature of the Google Photos application is called Shared Libraries.  With Shared Libraries, Google Photos can automatically share photos in particular categories with your friends and family.  The recipient of the shared library will be able to select photos which they can add to their own library.

Google also showed that the Google Photos application now has recognition technology that is able to distinguish various backgrounds, like for example, it can tell if your selfie has a crowd in the background or your children.

Another feature that will be added to Google Photos this year is the incorporation of Google Lens.  With Google Lens in Google Photos, the application will now be able to automatically remove unwanted objects in the photo.  An example Google used was a picture taken with a fence in between:

With Google Photo's artificial intelligence, it will be able to remove the fence which is an obstruction in the photo.

And the last announcement related to Photos, is that you will now be able create and order Photo Books using a simple tool so you can keep the physical photos offline.  You can create and order a soft-cover Photo Book for $9.99 or a hard-cover Photo Book for $19.99.

All these new features except the Google Lens integration which is scheduled for December this year, are now available for Android and iOS.
