What's New in Windows 8

Windows 8 was finally release last Friday by Microsoft, let's see what's new with this operating system so you can decide to upgrade or not.

The first thing you'll notice once you boot up Windows 8 is the Start button has been replaced by the Start home screen which is filled with customizable tiles.  These tiles are not standard static icons we are used to, they are live, auto update tiles and you can customize which tiles you want on your home screen.  For example, a temperature tile will show the actual temperature in real time.

Social network integration has also been Microsoft's focus lately, with Windows 8, you can share videos, photos, etc. just by swiping on what you want to share and instantly send it through email or post it in Facebook.

The major shift of Windows 8 is that it is now designed to work easily with touch screens, most of the functionality done with a mouse before can now be done by tapping on the screen if you have a touch screen, although Windows 8 will still work with just a mouse and keyboard.

Following the footsteps of Apple, Microsoft has also launched it's own apps store, the Windows store.  The Windows store offers a lot of applications, some applications are even free.

Of course, the latest operating system from Microsoft is geared toward the cloud, with Microsoft SkyDrive, you can save your files on your hard drive or in the cloud and access the files from other PCs or Windows Phones.

Microsoft Windows 8 Pro Upgrade is now available in the Philippines starting at P3,399.  The upgrade is applicable for valid licenses of Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7.
