Overshadowed by the iPhone 5 Release, Apple Also Updates the iPod Line

With too much attention thrown at the release of the iPhone 5, a lot of us overlooked the fact that Apple also announced the updates to it's iPod touch and iPod nano line.

The iPod touch now becomes more modern and less conservative, the old black and silver iPod touch has been replaced with a slew of very cool looking colored next generation iPod touches.  The 5th generation of Apples high end music player now comes in 6 brilliant colors including the special red edition.

The 5th generation iPod touch is very similar to the iPhone 5 in terms of dimensions, the latest iPod touch now also features a 4 inch Retina display packed in an all new super thin aluminum body.  This will be the first iPod generation to use exactly the same anodized aluminum material currently used in the MacBooks.  What's special with the aluminum casing of the iPod touch is that the colors are not painted, but rather bonded right onto the aluminum.

The iPod touch inherits the iPhone 4S processor, the A5, I think this dual core chip would be more than enough to power videos, games and music.  The Apple EarPods are also standard issue on the iPod touch, so you'll get the same excellent improved sound in your music and videos.

The iPod touch is now equipped with the new iSight camera which improves on the previous cameras in early generation iPods.

Siri now comes to the iPod touch, thanks to iOS 6, you can now ask Siri to play music, videos and even post in Facebook or tweet on Twitter.

It seems that the lightning connector now comes standard with the next generation Apple products so let's expect a slew of new lightning compatible accessories to come out soon.

There will be 2 memory sizes, the 32GB version will be priced at $299 while the 64GB version will be $399.  Pre-order starts on September 14.
