Hands On With the LG 50PM4700 50" Plasma TV
I just got my hands on the brand new LG 50PM4700 50" Plasma TV. The first thing I noticed (carrying the package home) was the package was quite heavy, and I realized that the one thing that made this TV set heavy, aside from the mere size of course, was the protective skin glass.
Setting up the TV for first use was a breeze, the LG Plasma detected that it was the first time to use and asked if I preferred to scan channels manually or automatically, of course I chose the automatic scan. I was very impressed since this LG was able to map the channels correctly as opposed to my previous TV which set the channel to the first blank slot it found.
Picture quality is also very impressive, thanks to its 1024x768 resolution combined with its dynamic contrast ratio of 3,000,000:1. You can choose between 8 preset video modes (Vivid/Standard/APS/Cinema/Game/ Photo/ISF Expert 1/ISF Expert 2). I chose the Cinema setting for watching movies and the quality was crisp. One complaint I have though is that when playing NBA2K12 on my XBOX 360, there are parts in the game where the picture slows down, I'm not sure whether it's my XBOX 360 or the LG TV having a hard time coping with the fast action. I don't have the same problem when watching movies.
Sound quality is better than the average sound normally found in other TV sets, you can set the TV to automatically adjust the volume based on ambient sounds and also has a setting in movies or TV shows that let's the voice come out clearer and sometimes louder.
The LG 50PM4700 Plasma TV is 3D ready, the TV can actually convert regular TV shows or movies and even games to 3D with one click on the remote control. You'll have to buy an LG Plasma TV compatible 3D pair of glasses to actually view 3D content.
The TV is also wi-fi ready, to activate this feature, you will need to purchase a wi-fi adaptor separately.
Overall, the LG 50PM4700 is a good buy, prices in the Philippines range from P47,000 to P50,000.
