Apple Releases "The New iPad" - Resolutionary!
Apple announced today the release of its latest tablet, what they now call "the new iPad". So it's not the iPad 3 or the iPad HD but it definitely has a high definition retina display which was first used on the iPhone 4.
This latest release of the iPad has been a disappointment to me, not too many groundbreaking or stunning new features. It almost feels like the iPhone 4S all over again, but the iPhone 4S had Siri to awe the world, I wonder what the new iPad will feature that will let us upgrade from the iPad 2.
Well, here are the specs and features for the 3rd generation iPad, I also noted if the particular new feature was accurately forecasted in the rumor mill before the actual Apple event:
1. Retina Display - the retina display on the iPad will have a resolution of 2048x1536, this according to Apple will have 44 percent greater color saturation and a total of 3.1 million pixels on the same 9.7 inch screen as the iPad 2. That will be four times the current display capability of the iPad 2. Also something to note, is that the number pixels on the new iPad is a million more than an HDTV.
This was one of the features accurately forecasted in the blogosphere.
2. A5X chip - We were expecting an A6 chip, but who are we to complain, the A5X chip is still the quad core processor we were expecting. The A5X chip will handle the higher resolution 3rd generation iPad and will still retain the smoothness and fluidity we love on the iPad, the good news is that this won't sacrifice battery life, the new iPad will still have the 10 hour battery life we are used to.
3. iSight camera - the iPad camera will now be capable of shooting 5 megapixel pictures and at the same time record 1080p HD video.
This was one feature we didn't expect.
4. 4G LTE - If you get the 4G model, you can connect at very fast data connections, not too excited about this yet since our carriers are just starting 4G here in the Philippines. One good thing though is that the new iPad is now capable of being a personal hotspot, other users can share the high speed connection of 1 iPad.
Another expected feature for the next generation iPad.
5. Dictation - I guess this is the closest feature yet the iPad will have to the iPhone 4S's Siri. With dictation, you can write an email, send text or search the web through voice commands.
The new iPad will still carry the features which made the iPad and iPad 2 the world's greatest tablets like, iCloud, iBooks, GameCenter, PhotoBooth and Messages.
The new iPad will start at $499 or about P21,457. Based on the release last year of the iPad 2, the Philippine release might be on May 4.
