The much anticipated October 20 Apple Mac Event was completed last night. A lot of rumors have been confirmed and as expected a fresh new line up and features of the latest Macs are out. Here are highlights from the Apple Mac Event:New MacBook Air - As forecasted earlier, Apple has released the latest version of the world's thinnest laptop, the MacBook Air. Not only did apple update the features on this iconic laptop, but it also created a smaller version, the Macbook Air is now available as with an 11" version. The most notable difference to the latest MacBook Air is that Apple has decided to replace the mechanical hard drives found in earlier versions of the MacBook Air with solid state flash drives. Another interesting piece of engineering done on the MacBook Air is that Apple created separate chips to form the solid state drive, this made it possible for the MacBook Air to be as thin as possible. With solid state flash drives, the MacBook Air is very silent since there are no rotating parts and makes file retrieval faster. The solid state drive also makes the MacBook Air's battery last longer, according to Apple, the battery will last 5 hours on the 11" version and 7 hours on the 13" version, and up to 30 days of standby time. The thing that will catch everyones interest is the low price point, the MacBook Air starts at $999, almost P47,000. That's cheap compared to the P80,000 starting price of the previous models.
Facetime for Mac - Apple wouldn't want Mac owners to be left out by the Facetime technology initially released with the iPhone 4. The public beta version of Facetime for the Mac is now ready for free download. Installing this will enable Facetime calling between Mac users, iPhone and iPod touch users.
